Own It, Man is a practical blog about responsibility, character, faith, discipline, work, leadership, and the everyday choices that shape a man’s life.
This is not a site built on pretending to have all the answers. It is built on a simple belief: a man becomes stronger when he takes responsibility for his choices, learns from mistakes, keeps his word, and works to become someone others can count on.
Life gets complicated. Every man faces setbacks, poor decisions, pressure, and moments when it is easier to blame circumstances than face the truth. But there comes a time when a man has to stop making excuses, take an honest look at himself, and say: I own it.
That is what this blog is about.
About Me
I am a West Texas man, U.S. Army veteran, and retired federal law-enforcement officer with a lifetime of real-world lessons—some earned through hard work, some through mistakes, and many through service to my country and community.
I served as an infantryman and sniper in the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division. That experience taught me early lessons about discipline, preparation, teamwork, accountability, attention to detail, and staying steady when circumstances are difficult. Military service also showed me that confidence is not loud talk or empty swagger. It comes from preparation, humility, competence, and doing your job when others are counting on you.
After serving in the Army, I continued a career in federal law enforcement. I served as a Federal Air Marshal and later with the United States Border Patrol. On January 13, 2023, I retired after 25 years of federal law-enforcement service.
Those years gave me a close view of human nature—both the best and the worst of it. They reinforced the importance of sound judgment, personal responsibility, family, courage, self-reliance, and doing the right thing even when it is inconvenient, difficult, or unseen.
I do not write from a pedestal. I write as a man who has lived a full life, made mistakes, learned hard lessons, and continues to work on becoming more dependable in the areas that matter most. My experiences as an Army infantryman, sniper, Federal Air Marshal, Border Patrol agent, husband, father, and member of my community have shaped the perspective I bring to this site.
My Christian faith also shapes how I see manhood, purpose, forgiveness, family, and personal responsibility. This blog will reflect that faith while staying grounded in practical, common-sense advice for men and young men who want to live with integrity, courage, humility, discipline, and purpose.
Why I Started This Blog
I started Own It, Man because a lot of men are looking for direction, but too much of the advice available to them is shallow, angry, unrealistic, or disconnected from everyday life.
Men need honest encouragement—not empty slogans. Young men need examples of responsibility and maturity. Fathers, husbands, workers, veterans, and men trying to rebuild after mistakes need practical ideas they can apply in real life.
I wanted to create a place for straightforward conversations about the issues men face:
- Taking responsibility for mistakes and making things right
- Building discipline, confidence, and a stronger work ethic
- Becoming a better husband, father, son, friend, and neighbor
- Handling stress, pressure, setbacks, and failure without quitting
- Developing useful life skills, self-reliance, and preparedness
- Growing in Christian faith, character, and integrity
- Leading with humility instead of ego
- Becoming a man people can trust and depend on
I do not have a perfect formula, and I am not interested in pretending that I do. What I can offer is an honest perspective shaped by military service, federal law enforcement, faith, hard work, mistakes, and the lessons life teaches over time.
If something I write helps a young man make a better choice, helps a father stay steady during a difficult season, or gives someone the push to stop making excuses and take the next right step, then this blog is doing what I hoped it would do.
